Criminal Record Checks – Children and Vulnerable Adults

VULNERABLE ADULTS
January 2011 - The 12-month phase-in of the amended Criminal Records Review Act begins.

Under the Criminal Records Review Act, individuals working with children or vulnerable adults and have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults must authorize a Criminal Record Check for their employer or authorized organization. This authorization is submitted to the Criminal Records Review Program for review.

The act helps protect:
  • Children from individuals whose criminal record indicates they pose a risk of physical or sexual abuse.
  • Vulnerable adults from individuals whose record indicates they pose a risk to physical, sexual or financial abuse.
  • Criminal record checks done through the Criminal Records Review Program are a legislative requirement under the British Columbia Criminal Records Review Act.



Cooks (Richmond, Steveston)

We are recruiting for Cooks for The Maple Residences in Steveston. This is a Residence for active Seniors consisting of 144 homes. These positions will report directly to the Food Services Manager/Chef. Hours are anytime between 8:30 am & 7:30 pm. Monday through Sunday. THIS IS NOT A SEASONAL JOB - WE ARE LOOKING FOR LONG TERM STAFF.

Duties include:
Food prep and production for self serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Preparing special entrees, short orders and catered items. Assists with inventory control, kitchen cleanliness, organization, proper storage of food, responsible for work flow, presentation and clean up when required. Preparation of Canadian, Japanese and Chinese dishes.

Must have:
  • Certificate from a recognized technical program for cooks
  • Food Safe Certificate, WHIMS, General First Aid an asset
  • Current Criminal Record Check

Experience:
  • 2 years experience in a recognized establishment
  • Be in good health
  • Be able to do significant amounts lifting, bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Be able to regularly lift and transport 35 pounds and on occasion up to 50 pounds
  • Be able to stand during the entire shift
  • Speak and understand English competently and understand written and oral instructions in English
  • Be a team player and possess a positive attitude
  • Willing to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed
  • Be able to work in hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods of time

Service Staff (Richmond, Steveston)

We are recruiting Serving Staff for The Maple Residences. This is a Residence for Independent Seniors of 144 homes. THIS IS NOT A SEASONAL JOB - WE ARE RECRUITING FOR LONG TERM EMPLOYEES. Hours of work are anytime between 9:30 am and 8:00 pm - Monday through Sunday.

Duties include:
  • Responsibilities for opening and closing the dinning room
  • Pre-set tables
  • Resident and guest satisfaction
  • Greet Residents, take orders, anticipate resident needs, clear & sanitize tables, maintain work station
  • Keep dining room clean and organized at all times
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, glasses, cutlery etc
  • Keep area of responsibilities clean and organized at all times. Sanitize dish machine
  • Assist cook(s) with food prep, cleaning, label/date food, storing, inventorying and stocking food products and supplies

Must have the following skills and abilities:
  • 2 years experience
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Serving it Right
  • WHMIS
  • Current Criminal Record Check
  • Be in good health
  • Be able to carry out significant lifting, bending, stooping and stretching
  • Be able to lift and transport heavy product up to 35 pounds regularly
  • Be able to spend 100% of the shift standing
  • Be able to learn basic tasks and follow instructions
  • Communicate in English and understand both written and oral instructions
  • Must be a team player and maintain good interpersonal relationships with residents, coworkers, superiors, visitors and volunteers in the work place
  • Be able to work independently with minimum supervision
